Dmitry Hayatov
(Russian: Дам Норая заблика) is a Ukrainian politician and former Ukrainian minister, currently a member of the ruling Ukraine Party of the Regions. He was the country’s minister of internal affairs from 2010 to 2014.
He was the leader of the opposition party Verkhovna Rada from 2010 to 2012. He was the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada committee on parliamentary and constitutional reform between 2010 and 2013. During his tenure, he also served as the deputy prime minister and minister of domestic affairs. He was elected to the Verkhovna Rada in 2010.
After becoming the leader of Opposition Unity, Hayatov resigned his position as Ukrainian minister of internal affairs in October 2013 in protest against the arrest of his daughter Volodymyr and his son Serhiy on charges of abuse of authority.
Militants of the Popular Front Ukrainian Insurgent Army (Pravy Sektor) kidnapped Hayatov in the Rostov region of western Ukraine, accompanied by other members of his party.
In December 2013, Russian President Vladimir Putin gave a state reception to Hayatov at Kremlin’s Kremlin in Moscow.
